Colorado Lays the Groundwork for Enhanced Postsecondary and Career-Connected Learning

2024 Legislative Session Policy Spotlight: This is the second in a series in which we highlight the policies passed during the last legislative session and how they will impact Colorado learners.


More than 90% of jobs that pay a living wage in Colorado require postsecondary training, yet 70% of our high school graduates don’t earn a certificate, bachelor’s, or associate’s degree within six years. (Colorado Public Radio)

The 1215 Task Force developed key recommendations to address this gap and expand career-connected learning, college coursework, and credentials in high school. One of their foundational recommendations, aimed at removing barriers to data transparency and understanding outcomes, was a key win for the 2024 Legislative Session.

Education-Based Workforce Readiness, HB24-1364, is a legislative initiative aimed at enhancing Colorado’s students’ preparation for future careers. It focuses on two critical foundational steps: a cost assessment of existing programs and a statewide longitudinal data system for enhanced decision-making.
