Colorado Succeeds Lauds Commissioner Robert Hammond’s Tenure

Friday, April 24, 2015 – Denver, Colorado – Upon hearing Colorado Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond’s announcement that he will retire on July 1, Colorado Succeeds and the business community are reflecting on his tenure of strong support for Colorado’s kids.

President of Colorado Succeeds Scott Laband said, “During a legislative session when both testing and standards are on the line, we thank Commissioner Hammond for defending these critical elements to prepare Colorado’s kids for Colorado’s jobs. However, the progress we’ve made is bigger than one man. We must ensure that the statewide accountability system stays in place.”

“Robert Hammond has been an extraordinary Commissioner and will be greatly missed. Under his leadership, the Colorado Department of Education has distinguished itself as one of the most progressive and effective in the country,” said Bruce Hoyt, co-chair of the Colorado Succeeds Board of Directors. “In particular, the work on revising standards to improve rigor, the support on the implementation of Senate Bill 191, and the unwavering commitment to accountability and transparency have propelled Colorado’s public education forward at its fastest pace in many decades.”

“Even as the Commissioner retires, the business community remains strong on what’s best for kids: making sure all of Colorado’s students have access to a public education that will prepare them for college and career,” said Laband.
