Colorado Succeeds is excited to welcome HDR to the network. We asked Brad Martin, PE and Connor Adamsick, EIT three quick questions to learn more.
Senior Vice President at HDR
Colorado Succeeds: What was your first job?
Brad Martin: My first job out of college was as an engineer-in-training for a competitor to HDR. I evaluated and designed water treatment plants, wastewater plants, conveyance, piping, and pump stations.
CS: What is an opportunity or challenge facing your industry?
BM: A relevant issue facing our industry is that school, including college, does not educate on what is important in our business. College prepares you to learn on the job, but has very little relevance to the day-to-day activities of our work. Until I had a job, I had no idea what my day-to-day life as an engineer would look like. I actually found out I did not like it after I had it.
CS: What was an educational experience that was transformational for you?
BM: An internship I had in college.
Bridge Engineer-in-Training at HDR
Colorado Succeeds: What was your first job?
Connor Adamsick: My first job after graduating from college was a Structural Design Engineer-in-training. During this time I worked on the structural design of a variety of vertical structures as well as culverts and bridges.
CS: What is an opportunity or challenge facing your industry?
CA: A huge opportunity in the civil engineering industry is continuing to push new technology to assist in creating more cost-efficient and longer-lasting solutions.
CS: What was an educational experience that was transformational for you?
CA: The most transformational experience for me in my education was during my internship in college when I finally used lessons I learned in the classroom to solve a problem in the real world.
