Shannon Nicholas

Chief of Staff

Shannon serves as Chief of Staff for Colorado Succeeds. In this role she manages the Advocacy and Communications work of the organization as well as the Operations team, focusing on organizational effectiveness and strategic planning. Shannon brings over a decade of knowledge around teaching, communications, and policy to Colorado Succeeds. Shannon comes to Colorado Succeeds from the U.S. Department of Education where she led educator effectiveness and human capital policy and grants for over six years, including the management of the Teacher Incentive Fund program, which awards over $200 million annually to districts and states implementing innovative salary schedule reforms. Prior to joining the Department, Shannon worked for a national public relations and public affairs agency in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, where she engaged with clients on developing robust earned media campaigns and social media outreach. Shannon began her career as a high school English teacher in Las Vegas with the national teacher corps, Teach for America.

Shannon holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, where she also served as Managing Editor of the daily student newspaper. She earned a graduate degree in Secondary Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas during her time as a teacher. Shannon is also a graduate of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, where she earned a Master’s in Strategic Public Relations. Shannon lives in Denver with her husband, Jamie, an educator for over 15 years and their son, Harrison.
