Education: a debt due from present to future generations.
-George Peabody

Business Tools for Education

Colorado Succeeds is based on the collective strength of the state’s business community seeking change through actions initiated within a common set of business principles. We believe that by applying the following ten business principles to education, the education system will produce a well-prepared workforce and citizenry:

  • Service – Focus on serving constituencies: Customers (students and families), Associates (teachers and principals), and Investors (taxpayers)
  • Standards – Demand uncompromisingly high standards
  • Accountability – Measure outcomes and align resources, responsibilities and accountability
  • Systemic – Take an integrated, seamless approach
  • Investment – Invest in, and maintain human and capital assets
  • Integrity – Align actions with values and require quality and transparency
  • Strategic – Maintain long-term vision, but be flexible to address changing dynamics
  • Efficiency – Support distributed decision making models and flat organizations
  • Improvement – Encourage innovation and expect continuous improvement
  • Performance – Reward performance
